Abstract:

The 2nd Online Discussion discusses the recent developments of English as an International Language (EIL) and suggest directions toward improvement and implementation of EIL pedagogical ideas in the classroom settings worldwide. The five ELT specialists invited to this videoconference provide insights into the theme of this videoconference and share ideas on how speaking English and English education are perceived in each country. Specifically, they discuss 1) general perception of English in each country; 2) the status of NNEST and NEST in each country; 3) age of learning English; 4) the role of English and local languages/mother tongues. Hopefully we will be able to learn from each other through this international gathering and add value to the field of TESOL.
